No silent rasterization: the picture-based mode is a separate, clearly labelled choice.
Questions about this tool
- Why did “Keep text” barely change the size?
- It rewrites the file structure and packs objects, but it does not re-encode the pictures inside. Most large PDFs are large because of pictures. That is what the picture-based mode addresses, at the cost of selectable text.
- Will the tool ever make my file larger?
- It can happen. If the result is not smaller, the tool tells you and offers your original instead.
